Perfectly plum

I'm just crazy mad super in love with plum tones at the moment. It is a distinctly autumnal colour to me. So rich and warm, somehow. I wore this last week on a busy day. So busy my shoes gave me blisters, ouchy!

I really enjoyed wearing my Art Deco Pagoda pendant again. It's such a statement piece. I had shop assistants, friends & co-workers all commenting on it.

Back to basics

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this 40s dress. It's such a great basic to just throw on for any kind of event and goes so well with everything from strappy sandals to patent pumps or plastic beads to rhinestones. Today? Just some of my hardest working pair of shoes (5 years strong) and one of my favorite Art Deco necklaces for a media event.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy New Year, take two. I'm a bit of a sucker for anything Chinese... I dunno how it happened, but I just am. So, Chinese New Year + Oriental print skirt? Yes. This is the Alice McCall Sundance skirt.  I overlooked it at first because I'm not a huge skater skirt fan, but when I saw the details I was sold! Peking glass jewelry was the natural partner for my outfit. I love this ring and these earrings, they're so perfectly Art Deco and the earrings even feature dragons. Have I mentioned I like dragons? I love dragons. Perhaps because they are the year I am born under.

Did you do anything to celebrate the New Year?

Almost a pajama day

Ah, I love holidays. You don't have to get dressed, but I always choose to. This time though, I blurred the boundaries. This kind of feels like sleepwear, but they're all real clothes... Great for a lazy day just (fun) working at home and getting groceries in. I decided to jazz the look up with this Pagoda shaped Art Deco pendant worn as a brooch. It's from Jean Jean Vintage and when I saw a sneak peek of it on Instagram I wrote to her and said, 'Pretty, pretty please?'. I'm always a sucker for anything Art Deco/Oriental.

Just a quick mid-week outfit snap. I absolutely love this top. It's so much fun, especially when worn with marvelous celluloid jewellery and my uber loved patent green heels.

Mummy dearest

So, it's rare I get ecstatically excited about a piece of vintage, and even rarer when I see a piece and say 'Oh Holy Sh*t!', because I basically just don't swear. There's so many other particularly expressive words out there.  Anyway, I did swear when I saw this Art Deco Egyptian Revival locket, and then snaffled it quick smart from The Deeps - such a good store.

For a girl who wore an ankh everyday of high school and delights in scarab beetle earrings, I couldn't pass this one up.  I mean, hello, it has a tiny mummy inside!

*swoon*

When I saw these Mimco 'Mermaid Shuffle' earrings, I knew I needed them. They're huge, they're bright, they're totally crazy, and everyone who encounters them has a slightly perplexed look at first before they decide they do like them. I think people are genuinely surprised I like these, and they don't know what to make of it. These aren't lady-like pearls, for sure. I'm about 99% certain these will be the vintage of the future. We'll see!

Autumn twilight

The days are getting chillier very slowly this year. I've only worn stockings three times despite it being late Autumn, which I am not complaining about in the slightest. I really love weather for bare legs. I added my favorite shoes to this outfit: The Mixed Media Heels from Anthropologie.  They're comfortable as hell and cute to boot - and available again!

Yellow fever

You know when you get something caught in your head and it's almost a viral infection, well, maybe that's how I feel about this dress... I've shared the blue version of this dress before, but here is the yellow. It's such a sweet dress, so glad I got both colour ways. Worn this time with royal purple accessories, because well, we know I'm a sucker for purple.

The bee's knees

Even though it’s officially Autumn here in Australia, and the first two days of March were freezing (hello knee high boots for 48 hours!) it’s back being sparkly sunny and warm, so I’m hurriedly wearing all my light sundresses one last time. I love shooting photos in the sunset. It just seems to make everything glow. I'm not looking forward to daylight savings ending.

This is perhaps one of my favorite dresses for summer. I managed to snaffle it from the US Anthropologie site as the last popback in my size on sale after trying it on in London and baulking at the awful conversion rate. And yeah, I am totally wearing the coolest necklace in the history of everything ever. It has pipe cleaners in it - pipe cleaners, guys! Everyone always wants to know about this piece, it's pretty much the bee's knees - I keep having this conversation when I wear it, which proves endlessly amusing.

In bloom

Happy belated Valentine's! This is what I wore yesterday. I wanted something uber romantic, but I also think looking back that this dress has an almost oriental feel to it, don't you think? Oh, and yes, I couldn't resist a photo of my dog, because she really is one of the most loved creatures in my life!

Hope you all got spoiled!

Down the Nile

I love all things Ancient Egyptian. Ancient History was my favorite high school topic. And while the Greeks were geeks, the Romans ruled, the Cretians cool, the Egyptians just had a bit of finesse about them, didn't they? So when I spotted this revival deco brooch on Jean Jean Vintage, my brain went a little giddy. I love it with this patterned shirt, such a great match.

Mean Reds and gold jewellery

Thanks for the well wishes recently guys. I am on the mend slowly and focusing on looking after myself for the next few weeks and learning to slow down a bit. Truth is I've also been feeling The Mean Reds. If you've ever seen Breakfast at Tiffany's, you'll understand. But for those that haven't... "The blues are because you're getting fat or because it's been raining too long. You're just sad, that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of."* Anyway, rather than hoping in a cab to Tiffany's, I know wearing some cute jewellery always helps me feel a bit better.

I don't know why I haven't one of these posts in ages, as I love wearing jewellery so much. This 30s locket is from Jean Jean Vintage. The cute little house by the ocean scene is sweet, and there's argyle print on the reverse. The scottie dog bracelet is a gift from Astin. She knew I was looking for one for awhile, and happened to spot it on ebay. I have a soft spot for scotties, they're cute, stubborn, intelligent, and generally good companions. And I think people in the 40s agreed!

*You know, it never dawned on me until recently that what Holly Golightly is actually describing is an anxiety disorder. I used to think anxiety disorders were a 'modern illness', the effect of too much, all the time, but clearly, they've been around a very long time.

If I were made of money...

...These would be coming my way right now. But, perhaps fortunately, I’m not made of money. If I were, I'd be missing at least an arm and a leg.

Rhinestones and celluloid

This pendant pretty much sends shivers down my spine. Some 20s girl was running around town with this swinging from her neck. It's divine. I don't generally wear long chains, but I think it looks just as nice on a short chain with my white Anthropologie tee. I accessorized with Chanel/Deco inspired nails in black and white. They were fiddly, but I think, worth it!

Turquoise

I've been on a bit of a turquoise kick lately. I think it's summery and fun, and it goes so well against black, white and pretty much everything in between. These are my favorite enamel turquoise pieces. The brooch is a 60s Greek style piece from Jean Jean Vintage, and the Victorian hearts and crown necklace with seed pearls is from Astin, who always picks so well for me. I wore them with a summery dress, as the weather this weekend has been a little bit more like it should be: humid and sunny!

Snakes and a locket

This week I wore these lovely pieces - an Edwardian Locket from Jean Jean Vintage, and this fabulous Art Deco snake and glass bracelet that was a birthday gift a few years back from Astin. I really love the way the snakes curl over the blue glass inserts and the Egyptian detailing to the frame work.

I have to admit with this locket when I first saw in in Duff's store I liked it but thought, 'Yeah, but it's just a locket, I shouldn't spend my money on a locket. I already have lockets'. But I kept going back to it, over and over again, and in the end I knew it had to be mine, otherwise I'd always regret it. I'm glad I bought it - I wear it all the time and it's such a beautiful, reflective, detailed piece.

Sunday Cleaning

Wearing:
Top: Anthropologie
Shorts: SES
Deco necklace: Jean Jean Vintage
Deco Ring: Gifted (from Lauren Rose Design)

In all reality, a tee and a pair of shorts is about as exciting as it gets on a Sunday. Most Sundays are spent cleaning, changing sheets, hand washing, and wearing pretty jewels to distract from the fact I've got unwashed hair, and I'm exhausted from a party the night before. Happy Weekend!

Like Candy

These are my latest Art Deco necklaces, and I'm swooning. They're feminine and geometic and feature all the things that I love about that period from a design sense. They remind me of candy, just far too sweet for my own good. My teeth might begin to hurt from these, I swear, especially for that blue necklace. I melted when I saw it! Like a kid in a candy shop.
