What to Wear Where ~ Christmas dinner out

I can't be the only one with more than one invite to attend a dinner at a nice restaurant with friends, co-workers and family to celebrate the season before the big day. I've personally got more than a few to juggle, and my head is filled with visions of dancing evening shoes and dress combinations a-plenty (kind of like those kids dreaming of sugarplums in Twas The Night Before Christmas).

When I saw this dress I knew without doubt it was perfect for this kind of affair, especially with glitter heels and big rhinestones. Add a petticoat to a vintage dress, then make it pop with modern accessories. Often women say to me that while they love my style, they are frightened to venture off into the world of vintage for fear that it could be a little too costumey... but I feel this dress is proof it doesn't have to be. Classic will always be classic - and what is more classic than shoestring straps, pretty embroidery and a full skirt in a bold, jewel tone? I avoided the cliche of teaming this with red, and instead picked up on the blue embroidery for my accessory choices. After all, you want to be festive without being a Christmas tree. You could do the same with a red dress too: skip the green, gold or silver - throw on some copper or blue accessories and you'll be set.

My main piece of advice for this time of year: Don't be afraid to dress up. It's something I wholeheartedly embrace: better to be overdressed than underdressed. It hurts no one for you to pop those heels on, or wear a luxurious silk shirt, or bold lipstick. Style your hair, add a beautiful piece of jewelry. Go bigger and bolder, everyone will love it, especially you.

The Christmas dinner out checklist:
  • A fancy dress
  • Wild accessories
  • Glitter heels
  • A tiny bag
  • Lipstick
  • Cash or credit card
  • Phone (for directions to the restaurant, photos of your fellow diners and the wine bottle label for later reference and note taking)
This beautiful vintage frock was on loan from The Vintage Drawer, located at 488 King Street Newtown NSW, Australia. Go visit Deborah's beautiful boutique to see a stunning array of 40s and 50s vintage gowns and dresses. Also pictured here are heels from Senso and a necklace from Anthropologie.

These posts are a little taste of what goes on in my head, all of those 'costumes' I devise in my head for what I'll wear in the countryside, to a wedding, to a NYE party, and every other possible place I might set foot. Hopefully they'll also inspire you! I bet you're wondering what I'm going to do next. Let's just say, plans are already in motion...

Goodness there is no shortage of AMAZING vintage dresses in your wardrobe!!! This dress is so perfect to wear out to Christmas celebrations, and the color of it and you posing along the water instantly brings to mind mermaids :)
I have been pondering the dilemma of what to wear to fancy Christmas lunches myself - and I can't decide whether I want to wear something Christmassy or not hmmmm!

Absolutely, go big or go home with the Christmas outfits!! You look like a beautiful siren of the sea in the gorgeous hues of that dress, party perfect!

I can't wait for the chance to break out some super-glam frocks and skirts over the next few weeks.

I love the dress, but I adore your hair and make up in this post! The long curls paired with those feathery lashes are just too dreamy. Love it!

Finding the right corporate event planners and space for corporate events is important. Finding the right area is indeed important. Innovative decor and the overall structure account for a strong first-impression on visitors. We must choose a place that is well-connected to transport.
