Don't tell me it's over

I love this time of year... warm days, and chilly nights. I'm absolutely going to miss sundress weather this year, I'm just not ready to abandon bare legs and arms, and open toed shoes, but I know it's coming  -  and soon if the monthly forecast is to be believed!

In the meanwhile, I'm squeezing in wearing as many things that were hanging about unworn, and I found this Bernie Dexter dress at the bottom of a storage tub. I only just fit back into it recently, which is lovely, so I took advantage of the sunshine to wear it for a mid-week coffee and cake date.

And I just realized this was a post about the weather. I'm dreadfully sorry. Have I mentioned that I'm also obsessed with nautical fashion before? Haha oh, yeah, I have.

Casual Friday

Y'know, just a casual Friday outfit wearing my new JD top from The Original Bad Girl. So in love with this new Sydney-based label.  Perfect for vixens, sirens, or casual pin-up gals. Well, casual pin-up girls who wear stilettos on Friday to work. Whatever. As my brother says when drunk and wearing his pink shirt, 'It's because I'm beautiful'. Amen to that, baby brother.

Wearing:
The Original Bad Girl JD top, 1960s plaid skirt, Anthropologie silver hoop earrings, Fakealite red lips bangle, Zara heels

(Re sizing in The Original Bad Girl, their size guide is TTS - I'm 35" bust, 27" waist and the small fits bang on!)

Dranks//Swams

So, it turns out Prince Harry came all the way to Sydney to check out some boats or something ;) It's amazing seeing our harbour crowded with war ships for the International Fleet Review to celebrate the century of the Australian Navy and hear the honking horns of the boats and the cheers of those around as we watched the fireworks. We Sydney-siders, we know how to throw a party - even the weather put on a show!

Thank you to my gracious party host and dear friend, Ellen of Talk&Spoon. Check out her blog for a dose of total food envy.

Masculine & Feminine

It’s been so quiet on the blog this month, which is funny; because it’s actually been hectically busy on my end, and then over the weekend I got the dreadful virus that seems to have hit the whole of Sydney in one go. Everyone starts the same… a drippy nose and a sore throat, and then bam! Try four or five days bedridden. So here’s some of the stuff new to me lately until I'm back on my feet again. I really like the way some of these pieces are fierce, like the sword bangle, the slightly military inspired feel of the jacket, and the medal-esque brooch, yet equally gentle and feminine. The sword bracelet is possibly my favorite of all of these... how cool is it? It takes nautical to a whole new level. When it arrives I'm going to run around, jingling my wrist at people and saying, "I'm a Pirate!"

Not quite nautical

Top: Review
80s silk skirt: Becky Drolan
Belt & Scarf: The Vintage Mistress
Shoes: Senso 'Selena'
70s Jorgen Jensen earrings & silver 50s bangle: Tresors
Trench: Portmans

I’m a bit of a sucker for the nautical trend coming through this season so when I saw this vintage striped silk skirt I knew I needed it. It’s not quite time for an anchor motif and splashes of red though, so I decided to keep it a little low-key, at least until summer. But my co-workers had the same idea it seemed, as we had all rocked up to work in blue and white stripes unintentionally.

“Welcome home sailor!”

Did you all have a nice day? I'm trying not to be a downer, but unfortunately it still wasn't a great day. But I did have sushi (which is a major addiction for me...)

I did however wear one of my new dresses from Capricious Traveller! As I was putting it on this morning (shivering, what is with you Sydney weather? I haven’t even recovered from the weekend’s sunburn) it just struck me that it needed a pop of colour. So I added the red bow to my hair. And then the skull and cross bone earrings, and the stripey shoes! Nautical chic I say!

At work, I got plenty of compliments on my dress, my earrings and my shoes - so I think I did quite well. One girl even said I reminded her of Dorothy in Wizard of Oz, which is quite the compliment!

Shirt dress: Vintage 60s/70s Capricious Traveller

Nautical hair clip – made by me

Shoes: Pierre Fontaine S/S 3 years ago.

Skull and cross bones earrings: Diva

I definitely want to make some more bow hair clips! They’re so easy and great fun. I think a nice big blue one would do perfectly, perhaps with a nice big bronze button. Or a purple one…. With a silver button.

Anyway, I might go be crafty - I can't help it! My cross-stitching and a good cuppa are calling me!

Whew

Sydney is an absolute scorcher this weekend! Yesterday was so hot, I couldn't believe it! At 35 degree celsius it was more than a little uncomfortable. The coming week looks like it will be pretty hot too.

Rather than errand running like I had planned, I instead stayed in the cool of the air-con yesterday and did a bit of a jewellery making.

Introducing: My Pearl Brooch!

I quite like it on my cardigan. I don't think it's too dressy either, which is a good thing.

I also made this nautical inspired hair clip. I used one of my vintage buttons and some left over gift wrap ribbon to make it. I'm pretty sure this will get lots of wear :)

And I noticed that Aya from Strawberry Koi is making her own hair bows too :) Her bows come with a lovely tutorial - I might give hers a go now!

Happy Sunday!
