So there's that...

Christmas, birthday and New Year is over for another year. So many parties and dinners, so many opportunities for dressing up, so much booze and food. I hope you had a happy break. I'll be back this week with the first of a few hair tutorials, yes, they're back. Let's go 2015.

Unbirthday

It's my birthday month. I say birthday month because when your birthday falls smack bang after Christmas, you never really get to celebrate it on your birthday with everyone. So instead I end up having to do staggered get togethers - a work cake the week before, dinner out before, lunch on the day of, drinks after the fact with friends. On Saturday night, Astin and I went to Steel Bar and Grill for part one of such celebrations. I pulled out this 1940s dress from it's hibernation, and it was mighty happy about it because I think it was sick of being wedged between a 1950s cheongsam and a 70s evening gown. I teamed it with classic gold and patent leather accessories. Easy.

Beautiful things

Boy was I spoiled over Christmas and for my birthday, so many beautiful accessories and treats! I'm a ridiculously lucky/spoilt lady. Did you get any exciting pressies under the tree?

Party like it's 1933 (or there abouts)

For my birthday at the end of last year, I told my friends to pretend it was any year between 1920 - 1940 and hence dress (and act) accordingly for my birthday party. We went to Centennial Park, we played croquet, had Pimms and lemonade, danced to classic tunes and ate cucumber sandwiches. Frankly, my friends did an amazing job as you can see just from digging about in their wardrobes.

I wore a beautiful 1930s Maxi Dress from Dear Golden with art deco star hair pins, blue glass filigree cocktail ring and filigree bangle from Jean Jean Vintage. And of course, if you're looking for a similar bob style for long hair, check out my tutorial here. My art deco necklace was from Lauren Rose Design - which is coincidentally where Astin got her art deco filigree onyx ring you can see her wearing. She also showed up in an authentic 1920s dress with jazz instruments printed on it, which was pretty fantastic.

I'm glad everyone was so sporting about the whole thing. Next year, heaven knows what theme I'll have. Downton Abbey Dinner, Mid-Century Mad Cocktails or perhaps a Jane Austen Ball?

The post Christmas wind down is on, and I can't believe that this holiday season is flying as fast as it is. This is just a little snapshot of birthday and Christmas celebrations over the past week. Oh yes, I had another birthday. Gosh those fly on by...

See you in the New Year,

Gran's 80th

My grandma turns 80 today. She was born in the year the Sydney Harbour Bridge opened, raised in the midst of The Great Depression, and seen good men go to war, including her brother. She remembers being able to play tennis on King Georges Road (now a 6 lane major road in Sydney) and the Georges River being crystal clear. She grew up always wanting curly hair, and would make her mother take her to different hairdresser each time in the hope they could cut some curl into it - these days she has it permed. My family had a beautiful lunch to celebrate this landmark birthday at SummerSalt on the beach at Cronulla and the waitress surprised my Nan with a candle on her dessert plate.

I love this outfit. I own this top in plain black, but my friend had also bought this polkadot version. She had never worn it (never worn! I know, it was still in it's shipping bag from Anthro...) and sold it to me because I love it. I also have a thing now for Gorman's shoes. They're so ridiculously comfortable and these heels are no exception. I got them for over 50% off which is also a steal.

Turning 23

Age is funny, isn't it? At work I'm the 'baby' because I'm the youngest. At home I'm the big sister. Among friends I'm just averagely aged, and as of next birthday I'll be mid-20s. But I've never thought of myself as 'old' until recently when I was told one of my tutoring kids has finished university in architecture. At first I was chuffed, and then I was like, 'Oh dear me. I feel so old. Wasn't I his HSC English tutor... uh, yesterday?'

Oh well.

Birthday went by with lots of fun, including a night on the town with 15 of my fellow averagely aged friends. Here's just some pics of the fun, as well as some pressies, cards and treats to me. In case you're wondering, I was wearing a Senso dress, 60s beaded bracelet and 60s rainbow silk clutch from Allen Company Inc for my night out. The necklace is a Victorian seed pearl and enamel piece from Ast for my birthday. So adorable!

Fun & hilarity

Well I'm back from my holiday break, and feeling a little fatter, fuller and happier! I hope you had a great time too. Christmas was such a fun time for my family. We went to visit my aunt's property, and they live behind a golf course so we went scooting about the empty golf course on their golf cart. Hilarity ensued!

Last night was my friend get-together for Christmas (post Christmas, why not?). I wore one of my all time favorite vintage dresses, this strapless 50s number from Hunny Bear Vintage. It's such a comfortable dress, and everyone always comments on it. I'm wearing it with enamel fish earrings from Pinguim, a forties black glass ring from Jean Jean Vintage, an Anthropologie belt, and Senso flats. Loved it the whole night. Also loved my friends serenading me with 'Happy Birthday' at midnight.

Today I've been spoiled rotten with pressies, texts, lots of love and even a lunch outing as it's my birthday. Can't wait for my birthday dinner... :)

Happy Birthday Me!

I've been having such a marvellous time celebrating my birthday, I've barely been online I know. In the past three days I've been to pancakes with 15 dearests, been drinking with 6 dearests, been to high tea with my dear mum, and had spaghetti from a can for breakfast (kind of my favorite breakfast ever...)

And I was kind of spoilt rotten as you can see. Thanks friendlies and families! Don't you love the felted rabbit ring holder? And ring from Astin Kirby is even inscribed with a date, '12/25/31'. Someone's Christmas present in 1931, marvellous! I've also got some pretty nighties, which is something I always appreciate.

Christmas got by as good as it could, thankfully. I only have family pics so I will spare you those, but I was in a very, very cute 50s backless halter dress :)

Right, off to watch Sherlock Holmes and eat another tasty treat that Jen of Pretty Little Pictures baked for me ;)
