Madame Butterfly

So, you know I’m a ballet and opera buff and on Monday night I went to see “Madama Butterfly” (the ballet version, not the opera) with Astin and her mother. Of course, as per usual, the costuming, the dancing and the music were divine, and I spent the whole show sitting bolt upright in my seat, watching in awe. Ok, the bolt upright may also have had something to do with my undergarments, but how else do you get a wasp waist?

Speaking of waists… The skirt is from Dear Golden Vintage and it swooshes as you walk. I wore it with a beautiful 40s silk blouse from Allen Company Inc (Kristina is such a gem to have priority mailed this to me in time), and deco earrings and ring from Jean Jean Vintage. I also wore Senso suede heels and fishnet stay ups which failed at ‘staying up’. The right one ended up below my knee as I was walking up to the Opera House and I had to stop to hoick up my skirt to my mid thigh and pull up my stockings in front of a table of diners at some schmancy restaurant at the Quay. One male diner in particular was fascinated. Attractive, I know.

Ballet at the Oprah House

Mum and I went to the ballet together last night as a Christmas Treat. Mum has always wanted to see the Nutcracker, and so have I!

We had to navigate all the Oprah fans who had congregated at the Opera House, so that was hectic! I wore my Holly Golightly Dress (that’s what I call it), though my co-worker calls it my escort dress as a little jab at the lovely Holly.

The Ballet!

On Friday night Astin Kirby and I went to see the ballet Coppelia at the Opera House. It was quite stunning. We both decided to dress up for the event. Pretty dresses, heels, you get the gist.

I was determined to wear a beautiful dress I bought from Dear Golden Vintage, but in the end the weather won out and I decided to wear something slightly more practical and less cold. You’ll see that dress soon anyway, perhaps for a day time event.

We grabbed a quick few pics after the show of our outfits, though they’re not very clear and I apologise…. My dress earnt me many looks. Many, many stares. I don’t think it was in a good way either, more a ‘woah that is bright’ kind of way.

(Yes, I’m a total goof. But check out my earrings. Totally funky!)

Here’s what AK is wearing. Can you believe she bought her dress at Bondi Markets for $10?

Shoes: Miss Santa Cruz by Peeptoe Shoes

Don't know about her accessories or coat.....

I think we both looked pretty nifty, if I do say so myself. It really breaks my heart to see people in jeans at the ballet, at the Sydney Opera House. Where has everyone’s sense of appropriateness gone?

Thanks to AK for the images :) Oh, and I had flesh tone stockings on. Such a wise idea....
